HAPPY 2019! Guys, I couldn’t be happier to start off this new year. 2018 was not my year, so I am so freaking ready to start off this year on a great note with a set of goals to guide my way!
To be honest, I haven’t been one to set “New Year’s Resolutions” in the past, and I think a big part of that is the academic calendar. In college, it felt like the year started in August, not January! Now that I’m out of college, I feel a sense of freedom from the academic calendar and truly feel like I’m able to turn over a new leaf for the new year. And it feels SO GOOD!
So, without further ado, I bring you my top 5 personal goals for 2019!
My Personal Goals for 2019
1. Read 12 books (at least!).
I absolutely love reading, and in 2018, I really didn’t do much of it. The books I did read were very meaningful to me, but I only read about 4 books. THAT IS SO SAD!!!
This year, I’m setting a goal of reading at least one book a month, or 12 books for the year. In a perfect world, I’ll read much more than that, but I’m hoping that this goal will motivate me to get going! I will be posting pretty soon about books I’m wanting to read in 2019, so be on the lookout for that!
2. Learn how to use Adobe programs.
As a creative professional and blogger, having working knowledge of Adobe programs is simply a must. While I use the Adobe Lightroom Mobile App to edit photos, that’s pretty much the extent of my Adobe expertise. This year, I want to really graduate from Canva and make the move over to Adobe.
3. Implement fasting into my lifestyle.
Without getting into the nitty gritty details, I want fasting to be a part of my life in 2019. Honestly y’all, fasting is hard. Real hard. I love to eat and the last thing I want to do is do without lunch. However, with the right mindset and the Lord’s direction, I think fasting presents a beautiful opportunity for spiritual growth.
I’m not exactly sure what fasting is going to look like for me in 2019, so this is something I’ll be praying about in the coming weeks (and keeping private – Matthew 6:16). If you too are interested in fasting in the new year, I’d encourage you to read this ebook that my church put out with lots of practical information on fasting.
4. Implement healthier foods into my diet.
I believe that living a healthy, well-rounded lifestyle is so important. My body is a temple of the holy spirit! That being said, in 2019, I want to continue to implement healthier foods into my diet. This is something I have slowly started to do over the past couple years but want to be really intentional about this year.
I certainly don’t want to do something like ditch carbs or sugar – what a sad life that would be. I’m simply wanting to experiment with more fruits and vegetables, and ultimately nourish my body with foods that with give me energy, improve my health, and honor the body that God gave me.
5. Practice Gratitude.
Good grief, I am not good at this. As a Type 4 on the Enneagram, I have a LOT of emotions, and I kind of like to sit in them a little bit. Because of that, I have been one to wallow in my sad emotions, and when I do, I’m not all that grateful.
This year, I want to practice gratitude. I will be praying for a more grateful heart and intentionally writing down what I’m grateful for on a regular basis. Practicing gratitude won’t happen on its own, but I’m on a mission to make this goal a reality in my life!
I hope that, after reading this, you feel inspired, encouraged, or even just like you know me a little bit better! Leave me a comment with what some of your goals are for 2019!
